An Oprah Audition Called "The Corey Brown Show"

This morning I learned that a friend and fraternity brother, Corey Brown, decided to audition for Oprah. It seems that Oprah Winfrey is using the web to gather audition tapes similar to what Glee has done on MySpace. As I watched the audition, I started thinking about the value of a good community.

Chris Brogan, a popular blogger and author, recently posted an article entitled, Do you Have A Network in Place. He writes:
There’s no value in your contact list if you don’t reach out to them when you can, and if you can’t offer them value long before you have a request of your own. It goes that way. You have to try and offer what you have. Then, when the time comes, and not in a “quid pro quo” kind of way, there will be some sense that a relationship existed long before you needed it. “Be there before the sale,” Julien and I called it in Trust Agents. Feed your network often. Connect with them. Touch them in whatever ways you can.
Those words speak volumes and, during this once of a lifetime opportunity, having a strong support system (network/community) in place may help propel you to the next level.

To Corey Brown, I am very proud of you for taking this leap of faith and look forward to the day when your show goes primetime.

Chat with Friends Across the iPhone, Android, Blackberry, and Nokia Devices

I am the proud user of a Blackberry Curve. For years, I have enjoyed the ability to instant message my friends who are also Blackberry owners. However, as more people purchased smart phones, I soon realized that we were not able to communicate with one another in the same way I can with my Blackberry friends.

Today, I am eager to announce that with CNECTD, a mobile app, the iPhone, Android, Blackberry, and Nokia devices can finally chat with one another.

Similar to the Blackberry Messenger, users can send messages to one another or join a group chat. Supposedly, users can connect to Facebook with the app and search for other users through its location tool. As of this article, I cannot confirm either of the two statements.

What I can confirm is a one-on-one conversation with an Android phone. For me and the team, this is a huge step in the right direction.

For those connected with CNECTD, find me with my contactID: damondnollan.

Televisions in the Bedroom: Know Thy Community

As of late, many of my online discussions take place in Facebook. From politics to technology, I get far more interactions there than I do in Google Reader, Buzz, Twitter, or the blog.

Yesterday, after recording "Room 3026 Live", a listener responded to something I said during the show. She told me that watching movies in the bedroom was wrong. In fact, any device or distraction in the bedroom is to be avoided. The listener continued to explain that the bedroom is reserved for only two things: 1) Sleeping, and 2) Sex.

Over the next day, the Facebook discussion gained more readers and responders. To my surprise, one community member wrote this conversation was the "funniest" thing. But, wait, what about all the other items I post? What about the article on Google TV? What about the latest news on Facebook?

Why We Started Room 3026 Live

For months, my team of talented web developers and I have played with the idea of doing a radio show. On nearly a daily basis, we find interesting topics of discussion that could go on for hours. Fortunately, we have jobs to do and many of those topics are forgotten or squelched.

As a result of this resurfacing idea, we all decided to just do it. Yep, let's start an online radio show.

The first day started off as a test, but after 10-minutes of tweeking the system, we got into the groove.

The rush of being "On Air" and having fun sharing our internal dialog seemed like a match made in heaven.

What Is The Privacy Issue With Facebook?

For the past week or so, I kept hearing about Facebook and their privacy issues. Early complaints state that user information gets shared with third-party companies or posted in places where individuals do not have control.

My first reaction to the stream of complaints was that posting information on the web is a personal choice. Knowing this information will become public, I can chose to post or not.

Facebook Plans to Enter the Location-Based Game

Facebook plans to release a location-based status update option later this month. The first marketer on deck is McDonald's.

According to Advertising Age, "McDonald's, through digital agency Tribal DDB, Chicago, is building an app with Facebook [that] would allow users to check in at one of its restaurants and have a featured product appear in the post, such as an Angus Quarter Pounder."

What about Foursquare, Gowalla, and Brightkite? With over 400 million users, Facebook could put a serious dent in the future of other location-based services.

Additionally, what about privacy issues? Facebook is already at odds with users who wish to keep their private items private. Can users trust that Facebook will protect their private check-ins at businesses and other hot spots?

Record High Definition Videos For Less Than $200

Recently, I decided to dive deeper into the video world. I see people like Chris Brogan and Kevin Levrone post some pretty interesting video blogs. While the following video is not my first, it may very well be the beginning of a beautiful relationship between me and this camera.

In this video, I introduce the Kodak Zi8 pocket video camera. I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on how I might improve these video clips.
