Saturday in Wilmington

On day two of my Wilmington trip, I spent the first part of the day in a fraternity meeting. The Board of Directors for the Middle Eastern Province of Kappa Alpha Psi continued a discussion on upcoming plans, issues, and potential resolutions. It is always nice to hang out with smart and successful people. The guys at this meeting definitely fit the bill.

At the conclusion of fraternal business, we broke bread together at Golden Corral, followed by some down time in the hotel. I hear some took the opportunity to sneak in a nap or polish their golf clubs.

At 8:00 pm, the Wilmington Alumni Chapter hosted its annual Boat Trip in Carolina Beach. The cruise took two hours and included a view of the Intracoastal Waterway through Snows Cut into the Cape Fear River. The chapter provided drinks, food, dancing, and plenty of fellowship. Near the end of the cruise, the brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi gathered together to sing the hymn on the upper deck. It was a magical moment.

Finally, the night ended with a relaxing stroll through Wilmington's night life. It provided an opportunity to "let our hair down" after a busy and fruitful day.

Below, the video captures the events of the day. Enjoy!

How To Rent A DVD From Redbox

Redbox, a DVD rental service, is becoming a popular alternative to the local video store. Located at gas stations, grocery stores, airports, and other busy establishments, Redbox makes it easy to rent DVD's for only a $1 per movie per day.

As a long time customer of Netflix, I felt that my needs were being met. Unfortunately, there are times that I want to watch a new release but Netflix does not have it available for instant viewing. Yes, Blockbuster is always an option, but who wants to spend that kind of money and drive that far? In my city, I pass at least three Redbox kiosks before I ever reach a Blockbuster.

Beyond the convenient locations and reasonable price, Redbox makes it easy to reserve movies from Redbox.com and pick them up at your leisure. Additionally, customers can rent DVD's from any Redbox and return them to any Redbox. This is perfect traveling entertainment for kids with short attention spans. Consider renting a couple of movies before the trip and exchange them for another set on the way home. How great is that?

Assuming you're interested in renting from Redbox, I created a video that explains how it all works. Let me know if you have any additional questions or requests. Enjoy!

First Taste: Andy's Double Cheeseburger

Every now and then I crave a good cheeseburger. I know, it's not the healthiest meal for someone trying to lose weight, but a good burger is worth a cheat once in a while.

In this entry, I stop off at Andy's Cheeseburger, Shakes, and Fries in Garner, North Carolina. After a disappointing Smitty Burger from Jubiliee Hamburger in Tacoma, Washington, I decided to taste a local favorite.

First opened in Goldsboro, NC in 1991, Andy's now has over 100 independently owned establishments across the state. For many years, the restaurant was known for its cheesesteaks, but the cheeseburger now dominates marketing efforts, starting first with its name.

For the first taste, I ordered the double cheeseburger. This burger consists of two patties, cheese, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, mayonnaise, and a bun. On the side, while not reviewed, I ordered fries and an orange-aid drink.

The cheeseburger is juicy and full of flavor. The first bite reveals a tinge of black pepper that suits the flavor perfectly.

The portion of a double cheeseburger is enough for me. In fact, the single patty is probably just right.

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest, I give the Andy's Double Cheeseburger a solid 9 for quality of taste and overall satisfaction. When compared to Cookout, Five Guys, and Jubilee, Andy's definitely takes the prize for a winning burger worthy of consumption.

If you're in North Carolina, I encourage you to give Andy's Cheeseburger, Shake & Fries a try. Enjoy!

Flying Into Sea-Tac Airport

On Tuesday, August 10, my son and I few from Raleigh/Durham into Seattle/Tacoma. It had been over six years since our last visit and the first time Darius recalls being on a plane. In this video, Darius is a little nervous about flying. I tried to capture his feelings before the flight and immediately following the final leg into Washington.

As the week proceeds, I plan to continue shooting snippets of video in an effort to share my time at home. If there is someplace you would like to see in picture or video, let me know.

Without further ado, here is our flight into Sea-Tac Aiport. Enjoy!

DailyBooth or Facebook For Sharing Life In Pictures?

See, Darin, this is how DailyBooth works...
I don't have it all figured out just yet, but I am having a ton of fun with this new site called DailyBooth. I first learned of this addicting service while catching up on my RSS feeds.

What is DailyBooth?
As I understand it, DailyBooth is a community built on pictures and status updates. The service makes it really easy to use your webcam, uploaded pictures, or mobile e-mail to freshen your stream.

Similar to Twitter or Facebook, users can update their friends by simply posting a picture and attaching a few words to explain what's happening.

Beyond that, users can receive e-mail notifications when someone follows, sends a message, or snaps a new picture. As an added bonus, DailyBooth also connects to Twitter and Facebook for easy sharing.
