Soon, You Could Buy Soda Pop With Your Mobile Phone

Before the end of the year, consumers in Belgium and Luxembourg could buy their next soda pop with just a swipe of a mobile phone.

According to an article in Mobile Entertainment, PingPing, a payment specialist, seeks to outfit a number of Coca-Cola vending machines with Near Field Communication (NFC) devices. When matched with a PingPing card or tag, a sticker attached to the phone, users will simply wave the device in front of the Coke machine for a no-contact purchase.

Stijn Vander Plaetse, VP Innovation at Belgacom, made the following comment:
After the success of contactless payment in the mobility field, this partnership with the major player in the beverage sector again demonstrates the soundness of our innovative strategy which aims to transform the mobile phone into an electronic wallet. We are convinced that PingPing can offer a simple, efficient solution for small, daily purchases.
This is an exciting time for us guys and gals. Someday, we can stop walking around with large wallets in our pockets and purses on our arms.
