New Spotify Users Must Have A Facebook Account To Join


The Next Web reported on their blog today that new Spotify customers are required to have a Facebook account before allowed to create a Spotify account.

It all started with a question on Get Satisfaction:
Can you sign up for Spotify without Facebook? 
There seems to be nowhere on Spotify's website that lets you sign up for Spotify without a Facebook account. The sign up links ask to to log in to Facebook or create a new Facebook account. 
Is there a hidden link anywhere on the website that lets you sign up without linking it to a Facebook account?
The following response came from a Spotify Employee:
Hey Guys thanks for your question, Unfortunately you will need a Facebook account to access Spotify from now on, unless you already have an account set up. 
This does not stop you creating the Facebook account adding nothing to it and making it totally private as the Facebook account does not have to be actively used.
To verify, I logged out of Facebook and tried to create an account on Spotify. This is what I got:


While I am not all that concerned about the recent change, there are many who are. In fact, reviewing the comments on Get Satisfaction reveal customers canceling their services and overwhelming feelings of frustration and confusion.
